From 30 October to 1 November 2025, the North-West University Presence Team proudly participated in the Community-Led Knowledge Co-Creation Seminar at the Faculty of Engineering, Potchefstroom Campus. The seminar brought together researchers, students, and community members to explore collaborative approaches to health, well-being, and sustainable community development.

The event was led and initiated by Prof Ushotanefe Useh, Deputy Dean: Community Engagement and Stakeholder Relations, a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (UK), with expertise in social discourse addressing health, lifestyle and non-communicable disease risks, education, law, social justice, and social development. His guidance ensured the dialogue focused on bridging academic research and real community needs.

The Presence Team actively contributed to discussions and showcased ongoing projects. Other project stakeholders invited included Sanpark, Witrand Psychiatric Hospital, Potchefstroom Hospital, Klerksdorp-Tshepong (KT) Hospital Complex, and the Potchefstroom District Department of Health, highlighting the seminar’s interdisciplinary and multi-stakeholder approach.

Over the two days, participants reflected on the university’s contributions to communities, identified new gaps, co-created action plans, and had valuable opportunities to network, share experiences, and strengthen partnerships.

The Presence Team’s contributions stood out, demonstrating the impact of integrating presence into community work. The seminar was a resounding success, reinforcing NWU’s commitment to listening, learning, and working together with communities for sustainable change.
