New strategies to strengthen clinical accompaniment of nursing students through caring presence

Clinical accompaniment is a vital aspect of nurse education.

Dr. Beauty Mkhaliphi is a competent nurse educator who understands the importance of guiding nursing students in acquiring the clinical skills they need to become registered nurses. She recognized that strengthening the clinical accompaniment of nursing students is crucial to achieving this goal. To put her insights into action, she conducted a research study to find out how practicing caring presence during clinical accompaniment can help strengthen nursing students' clinical skills. She interviewed nurse educators and nursing students in the Gauteng province of South Africa, and based on the findings, she developed and evaluated a set of integrated and comprehensive strategies: strategies for nurse educators, nurse educators and nursing students, and nursing education institutions (see below).

Dr. Mkhaliphi recommends the implementation of these strategies to help nurse educators guide students in acquiring the clinical skills they need. She also recommends further research to refine the strategies.
