As the Presence Team, we recently had the privilege of facilitating a Presence Workshop at M-Care Hospital Potchefstroom, a facility renowned for providing high-quality, individualised physical rehabilitation and psychiatric care through a holistic, multidisciplinary approach. Our visit formed part of a collaborative partnership aimed at strengthening one another through shared learning, reflection, and mutual support.

What stood out to us was the spirit of teamwork and compassion that flows throughout the hospital’s staff. Despite the daily challenges of complex patient needs and demanding workloads, the nurses continue to show unwavering commitment to supporting patients and their families through recovery, rehabilitation, and reintegration into the community. Together, we explored what it truly means to be present — not only in moments of care, but also in how we support, listen to, and uplift one another as professionals.
The workshop was guided by the DREAM principles: dedication, respect through relationship, environment, art of healthcare, attitude and advocacy, and motivation. These values remind us that presence is not a single act, but a continuous way of being — one that helps us stay connected, grounded, and compassionate in our work. Through open reflection and conversation, we discovered new ways to connect and engage as a team — learning from one another’s experiences, celebrating strengths, and finding renewal in unity.

What made the day truly special was the openness and energy of everyone who participated. There was laughter, meaningful discussion, and a genuine sense of connection. It reminded us that presence flourishes where people feel seen, heard, and valued — and that this shared humanity is what ultimately strengthens patient care, rehabilitation, and overall wellbeing.
Our time with the M-Care Hospital team reaffirmed that presence is something we cultivate together. By supporting one another, listening with empathy, and embracing a spirit of collaboration, we not only strengthen our teams but also create environments where compassionate, holistic care can thrive.

We left feeling deeply grateful for the partnership and inspired by the dedication of everyone who continues to make a difference each day. Looking ahead, we are excited about future collaborations with M-Care Hospital — continuing to build on this foundation of connection, care, and shared learning. Together, we are nurturing a culture of compassion that grows stronger with every encounter.
